Discover the fusion of Mexican and Asian cuisine with these delicious Taco Egg Rolls. Perfect for an appetizer or snack, they take inspiration from classic tacos and transform them into a crispy, golden egg roll filled with spicy seasoned beef. Each bite is a harmony of flavors and textures, topped with a rich cheese sauce, fresh salsa, and crisp shredded lettuce.
Ingredients
🥩 1 lb ground beef
🌮 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
🌶️ 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
🧅 1 small onion, chopped
🥫 1/2 cup salsa
🥟 10-12 egg roll wrappers
🛢️ Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)
🧀 1 cup cheese sauce
🥬 1 cup shredded lettuce
Instructions
1- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Sprinkle in the Cajun and taco seasonings.
- Use a meat chopper or spatula to break up the beef as it cooks. Once the beef starts to brown, add the chopped onions.
- Continue to cook until the beef is fully browned and the onions are translucent, about 10-15 minutes.
- Drain excess grease, then stir in the salsa. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
2- Assemble the Egg Rolls:
- Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean, flat surface in a diamond shape with one point facing you.
- Place a few tablespoons of the beef mixture in the center of the wrapper.
- Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides. Roll the wrapper tightly, sealing the edge with a dab of water.
- Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
3- Fry the Egg Rolls:
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place the egg rolls in the hot oil (do not overcrowd the pan) and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
4- Serve:
- Arrange the egg rolls on a serving platter.
- Drizzle with cheese sauce and top with salsa and shredded lettuce.
- Serve immediately and enjoy this delightful fusion treat!
